Today we celebrate the 5th birthday of Ben the four-legged fireman of the Dog Unit in service at the Salerno Command. Patented on 9 July 2021, after a 10-month course, in the midst of which its handler Giuseppe had to personally pass quizzes, together they passed obedience and gym (obstacle) tests. Subsequently the second step began with the first approach to surface and rubble searches. At the end of the 10 months, quizzes and the first exam consisted of a surface search simulation while for the second test a simulation of a collapse with a person under the rubble.
Ben and Giuseppeamong other things, intervened for the collapse of a house on 3 January 2022 in the Municipality of Afragola fortunately without victims, for example Ischia on the occasion of the flood on November 26, 2022, as well as for the collapse of the building in Torre del Greco where a girl was pulled alive on 17 July 2023. On this last occasion Ben carried out three searches to exclude other victims under the rubble. To date he has carried out more than 50 surface research interventions. A pride and a heritage to be safeguarded for the National Fire Brigade.
