2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Siena. On 3 July 1944, French troops entered the city, first from Porta San Marco and then from Porta Camollia, in a moment that marked the history of Siena. Those very rare images have been found and today for the first time an original transalpine film made in 1944 is shown: it is projected for the whole day in the Rooms of Memory. Alessandro Orlandini, director of the Historical Institute of the Sienese Resistance, speaks with pride of this possibility that is offered to the Sienese and beyond, that of seeing exceptional period images again, and also speaks of the exhibition that was set up in Piazza Matteotti to tell what happened in that summer of 1944 and also in the following months. Today initiatives are being held in Siena such as Poggibonsi, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Gaiole in Chianti, Montepulciano and various locations in the Sienese province. In Siena the procession, preceded by the Banda Città del Palio, starts from the Asilo Monumento at 3.55pm. At 4.15 pm the arrival in the university rectorate where a wreath will be laid. The same ceremony will be repeated a few minutes later at the Synagogue. At 4.30 pm the celebrations begin in Piazza del Campo. At 6pm appointment at the Rozzi theater with the theater show entitled “The body – first study”.
