Scurati’s monologue was read on April 25th in Cerignola

CERIGNOLA – In Cerignola, in the Foggia area, the 79th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy was commemorated with a procession and the reading of Antonio Scurati’s monologue (which the writer should have read during a Rai broadcast) by the secretary of the young democrats of city, Antonio Perchinunno.

«Scurati’s words – said the mayor Francesco Bonito – underlined the tenacious sensitivity of the city’s youth political associations against all forms of censorship and historical revisionism, reiterating the inalienable importance of April 25th in the collective memory». The moment of reflection was enriched by the speech of Giovanni Magnifico – president of the local Anpi Cerignola section – who emphasized the relevance of the values of freedom and justice, still put to the test in global contexts marked by conflicts and oppression. The procession, which was attended by the council, city councillors, law enforcement agencies, military and combatant associations, representatives of the political and voluntary world, stopped at the epitaph dedicated to the martyr of the Fosse Ardeatine, Teodato Albanese, and the commemorative plaque of the ten civilian victims of via Anna Rossi.

The event ended at the city cemetery, where a moving tribute was paid to the fellow citizens who fell in the Aegean Sea and to the victims of the Valle Cannella massacre.
