BADIA POLESINE (Rovigo) – It’s an intense week that the Borsari Rugby Badia who, after the two victories against Pesaro and Patavium Rugby Union, are preparing to challenge Sunday 28 April at 3.30pm away at the Payanini Center, the Verona Rugby.

The match will be valid for the twenty-first and penultimate day of the Serie A Championship, group 2 and will be refereed by Daniele Vignarelli (Milan) assisted by line judges Michela Giordani (Vicenza) and Alessandro Ballerini (Verona). The one experienced by the Polesans was a somewhat particular season where there was often turnover, but the most attentive supporters will have noticed that in the First XV announced every week there is missing a presence that in the last season was constant and necessary in the attacking midfield: Michael Baccaro. The white centre, 21 years old, started playing rugby at the age of 6 and has never stopped since then. In 2017 he received the offer to go and play in South Africa in the World Schools Festival where the best South African and New Zealand schools compete. Subsequently, last season, he was asked to do the pre-season with Rovigo but unfortunately he was forced to refuse due to the job he had found a few months ago.

Michael, last season, especially towards the end, his qualities as a physical centre, tackler, always ready to stop his opponents emerged…

“We started off with a bad first round, then in the return we asserted ourselves and managed to win important matches which allowed us to stay alive. Precisely in that period I managed to give the best of myself, bringing out my qualities.”

This year we saw her less on the pitch…

“This season started off great with two consecutive wins, then in the game, I tore my hamstring. Since then the team, in addition to mine, has had several injuries and unfortunately we have lost many games in a row. After 4 months of stopping I had started training again and when I was ready to return to the pitch against Petrarca in the derby, on Thursday 6 March, I had an accident at work where my foot was completely crushed by a forklift. I’m still undergoing oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber and I’ll have to wait several months for my foot to go back to how it was before.”

Despite this, you never failed and always supported your teammates…

“I have always done everything I could to support my team. This long stop is making me understand how much I miss not only playing, but also simply training with my teammates.”

On Sunday, Borsari Badia will be called upon to face a tough match…

“Badia will face Verona in what will certainly be an interesting match both because they are first in the table, but above all because we need points to save ourselves from relegation. For this reason we will be very keen to demonstrate our value in their home.”
