The empire is in the balance: Antonio Di Bella will tell why Europe cannot stand by and watch

To understand something in the global picture: Kaleidoscope between friends and enemies of Europe, in the midst of the elections of the old and new continent.

Will be Antonio Di Bella, The May 9th at 6.30pm at the Governor’s Palacethe next guest of the show Kaleidoscope new perspectives of an old continent. He will bring to Parma the contribution of someone who spent 45 years as a Rai television journalist, most of which as a correspondent from the United States. An adventure that began with the first war in Iraq and culminated in the desecration of Capitol Hill of which he was a direct witness (the only Italian television reporter).

Today, in addition to being a commentator on La7, on Wednesday evenings he hosts the in-depth program Di Bella sul 28 for Tv2000. Kaleidoscope, thanks to Di Bella, who will be interviewed by Paolo Ferrandi, professor of journalism and new media at the University of Parma and head of the internal-foreign sector of the Gazzetta di Parma, will broaden its horizons beyond Europe. Starting from his latest book The empire in the balance will tell what is happening across the Atlantic in an election year that sees a possible return of Trump to the White House.

His will be an investigation, through events, anecdotes, protagonists and witnesses of the last twenty years of American history, to get to the roots of a discontent, of an old lion whose roar is less scary Friedman wrote in the New York Times, and of a crisis that risks undermining the very cornerstones of our democratic model. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War had left the American eagle alone to dominate the world scene: a hegemony called into question by the new international scenarios and by acute pathologies witnessed by the political and psychological state of a large stratum of American public opinion fearful of the advancement of immigrant rights.

Together with Di Bella and Paolo Ferrandi, the Auditorium audience will therefore try to find the answer to the most obvious questions: should Europe hope that Trump does not win? The legendary country always one step ahead, is the myth of America just a memory that belongs to the past?

The meeting on May 9th is FREE ADMISSION UNTIL AVAILABLE PLACES LAST. Reservation from April 30th (recommended) on https://www.comune.parma.it/prenota/app
