Naples, the Ministry of Culture at Comicon

The Ministry of Culture will participate in the Comicon Napoli – International Festival of Pop Culture, which will take place at the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples from 25 to 28 April 2024.

On the opening day, April 25th (1-2 pm, Dino De Matteo room) the writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien will be at the center of the debate “Tolkien: other minds and other hands”.

The works of the author of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”, which made him one of the most read authors in the world, have inspired artists, writers and musicians. For this reason, the comics sector could not be missing. Various parodies and adaptations inspired by the stories of Middle-earth, as well as tributes and homages present in the most famous strips, including Captain America, Tex, Dylan Dog, Zagor and Mickey Mouse. Tolkien himself was the protagonist of stories and comics. This is an appointment to discover the “other minds and other hands” who continued to give life to the Tolkien world, together with Oronzo Cilli, curator of the exhibition promoted by MiC “Tolkien. Man, Professor, Author”, open until 2 July 2024 at the Royal Palace of Naples, Antonio Arzilli and to the cartoonist Disney Fabio Celonimoderated by Davide Gazzillo.

Furthermore, at an event intended for a predominantly young audience, the MiC will bring two initiatives that make culture accessible and engaging for young people. In the institutional stand in pavilion 1, visitors will receive detailed information on the “Card of Culture and Charter of Merit” and “Comics in Museums” projects.

From 31 January this year, the Culture Card and the Merit Card have replaced the 18 App Culture Bonus: these electronic tools offer students born in 2005 a voucher for cultural consumption, including comics, manga and graphic novels. Until June 30th it is possible to request both cards: each is individual, nominative and worth 500 euros and can be used no later than December 31st of the year in which the beneficiaries registered on the platform. The two cards can be combined with each other.

Furthermore, the Ministry will also bring to Comicon the “Comics in Museums” initiative of the General Directorate of Museums in collaboration with the publishing house Coconino Press – Fandango and the support of Ales SpA: a series of graphic novels capable of describing the collections of the museum heritage Italian with compelling stories that blend historical and artistic elements with the creativity of comics.
