The demonstrators, after having occupied Piazzale Roma, attempted to leave in a procession towards the historic center of the city, arriving at contact with the cordon of officers in riot gear. The deployed agents repelled them with charges.
From today entry ticket to Venice from 5 euros
The entrance ticket to the city for tourists it is designed to discourage the arrival of visitors on peak days. Signs have been put up in front of the main arrival points warning visitors of the new requirement for a 29-day trial phase until July. Around 200 stewards are ready to help people with downloading a QR code while a kiosk has been set up for those who don’t have a smartphone. Violators risk fines ranging from 50 euros to 300 euros. The obligation applies only to those arriving between 8.30am and 4pm. Outside these hours, access is free.
