From a striker in the rossoblù shirt to one of the most important figures in the youth sector of that same country Cagliari which had definitively launched him into the world of football. Roberto Muzzi he returned to Sardinia in the summer of 2022 to make his contribution, today as technical coordinator of Cagliari’s Primavera and Under 18 teams. Muzzi spoke about his role and his story in an interview with Fanpage. Below is an excerpt.

On today’s role

“I am the technical coordinator of Cagliari’s Primavera and U18s, a sort of sporting director of the youth sector. More of a field role than a desk role, but I like it despite being aware of the responsibility. Our job is to try to bring players into the first team to enhance the youth sector in every way. Working well with young people is very important both for the clubs and for the whole movement.”

On Cagliari

“I have a very strong bond with this club and these people, it made me become a man and a player. They have been close to me in good and bad times from day one: I have always felt the warmth of the fans and I will always be grateful to them for this.”

On the best player he has played with and on the player he sees himself in

“For me Fabian O’Neill is remembered less than he deserves because he was a really good footballer. Juventus signed him to replace Zidane, so this should already make it clear. He collected less than he should have but he was really strong. His passing was a very sad event but we can always remember him for the fantastic footballer he was. Who do I see myself in? Difficult to say, but I would say Oristanio of Cagliari has something in which I see myself. He has been a bit unlucky and he has had a few too many injuries but he is a very interesting footballer”.
