Perugia, ATM blown up in Ponte San Giovanni

The perpetrators removed several thousand euros in banknotes contained in the automated teller machine, and then disappeared

Today, in Perugia, at the first light of dawn, around 04.40, a resident of the hamlet of Ponte San Giovanni reported to the Operations Center of the Carabinieri Provincial Command, via the Single Emergency Number – NUE – 112that they had heard an explosion in the area, in particular in via Gustavo Benucci.

The immediate intervention of the soldiers of the Radiomobile Section of the local Company, of the Ponte San Giovanni Station and, subsequently, of the Fire Brigade, who had the opportunity to note the explosion of the ATM machine installed at the branch of the “Banca Centro Toscana Umbra” located there, which occurred a few moments earlier.
On this occasion, it was revealed that unknown persons, using explosives, damaged the area where the ATM device is located and the internal premises of the credit institution through the resulting shock wave.

From a careful inspection conducted with the help of the Carabinieri of the Scientific Investigation Section of the Investigative Unit of the capital, including the anti-sabotage bomb squad, it was ascertained that the perpetrators had removed several thousand euros in banknotes contained in the automated teller machine, and then disappeared.
Investigations conducted by the Carabinieri are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the event and identify those responsible.
The building concerned, with the exception of the rooms on the ground floor where the branch is located, is usable following a check carried out by the Fire Brigade staff.
