In the hope that the weather will hold, but the organizers of the Modena Brotherhood have already canceled the discus and hammer throwing competitions as the cages have not been installed safely, the historic dedicated meeting will be held today at the Modena athletics field to April 25th. Reggio responded with 44 athletes from Self Montanari and Gruzza, 33 from Atletica Reggio, 27 from Corradini Rubiera, 25 from Atletica Guastalla Reggiolo and 2 from Atletica Castelnovo Monti, for a total of 131 appearances. This is in fact the first large-scale meeting of the season, with around 950 registered participants. At the start there are important names in our athletics, here’s who can do well in the various races. In the 100m the best is Davide Sergio Pinelli, in the 400m Stefano Mora, although it must be said that 171 of them show up in this race with 60 athletes who have never run this year. In the 1500m Federico Rondoni and Alessandro Casoni, in the high jump Benjamin Okyere Nyanney, in the long jump Matteo Giovannini. Among the girls there is a lot of interest in seeing the young Viola Canovi at the start in the 100, as well as Greta De Pietri. In the 400 the Self twins, Sara (photo) and Lucia Cantergiani, have excellent accreditations, even if the Florentine Camilla Rossi is aiming for gold. Elena Fontanesi is hot in the 1,500m, Sofia Negri is in the 100m hurdles.
On Saturday, however, 26 Self athletes are registered for the 29th San Marino Titan Trophy: many young people, at the start to gain experience. As for the races scheduled in the Reggio Emilia area, the Castelnovo Monti meeting will be skipped on Saturday and Sunday, also in this case due to the risk of bad weather. Instead, the “45th Walk of Liberation” will take place regularly this morning in Fabbrico from 9am, on the 5 and 10km routes, both competitive and non-competitive.
