04/25/2024 – The municipality of Pesaro has appropriately prepared, as every year, the program of celebrations for the anniversary “of the Liberation of Italy from the Nazi-Fascist occupation”.
The honor paid to the Liberation can only find participation and solidarity in the memory of the sacrifice of the many fallen of the Partisan Brigades in the Resistance fought by exponents of various tendencies: Catholics, communists, liberals, socialists, shareholders, monarchists, anarchists, economic and social forces . But also the carabinieri (also coordinated in the clandestine Carabinieri Resistance Front), financial police, police agents and officials. There was no lack of courageous contribution from ordinary people who sometimes suffered cruel German reprisals.
Protagonists of the Liberation, who are not talked about much, were also the soldiers of the 1st Motorized Group of the reconstituted Italian Army (26 September 1943), of the subsequent Italian Liberation Corps, a large operational military unit of the Cobelligerent Army (22 March 1944) , and then of the five combat groups (23 July 1944), which went up Italy with the allies up to Milan and Venice. The indirect contribution of the 600,000 Italian internees in German camps captured after the disarray following the unfortunate lack of indications, at the signing of the armistice, by Vittorio Emanuele III and his military should not be forgotten. Federico Chabod, partisan militant and authoritative historian, wrote: “What remains as the common heritage of the Resistance is the popular struggle for freedom. It is a historical fact that will remain in the history of Italy.”
Not to be overlooked is the contribution of the Jewish Brigade which, sent to the Italian front, landed in Taranto and advanced along the Adriatic, arrived in Pesaro where, among other things, it rebuilt the bridge over the Foglia destroyed by the retreating German army, facilitating thus the transit of the allied forces. On the keystone on both sides of the bridge the coat of arms of the Brigade is clearly visible, placed in memory of the valiant initiative.
