Livorno will host, in the renovated rooms on the second floor of Villa Maria, a second level university Master’s degree themed “Writing TV series”.

This was announced this morning at the Performing Arts Documentation Center by the Director of the Cultural Activities, Tourism, Museums and Foundations Sector of the Municipality Giovanni Cerini, in the presence of the Councilor for Culture.

The course, the result of an agreement between the Municipality of Livorno and the Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics of Pisa, is part of a broader project which aims to systematically analyze and combat the phenomenon of linguistic impoverishment, which affects our society in an increasingly evident way, involving not only the school population in the various stages of education up to university, but also the world of work and communication.

The project was illustrated in detail by Professor Roberta Cella, professor of Italian linguistics at the University of Pisa, who explained that the Master, aimed at those with a master’s degree, will start in January 2025 and will consist of 6 months of lessons in classroom and 6 months of internship in production houses. It will have a very practical imprint, under the guidance of screenwriters and scriptwriters and will enable the students to learn about sectors with a strong shortage of specialized personnel such as serial writing. Professionally training these professional figures, the teacher noted, can meet the demands of the job market.

The course, lasting one academic year, will cover the following topics: elements of narratologyfundamentals of linguistics for recited writing and recited speech, elements of entertainment law and stage professions.

He was also present at the meeting Michele Lezza of the 8mmezzo cultural association who hoped to be able to move part of his film archive to Villa Maria and to be able to increasingly transform the structure into a reference center for local associations dealing with cinema.

Finally, the architect Melania Lessi, head of the Municipality’s Cultural Maintenance office, took those present to visit the second floor of the renovated villa which, as mentioned, will host the master’s course in the new year.

WORK ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF VILLA MARIA WHICH WILL HOST THE MASTER

After a previous intervention concluded in 2013, which allowed the reopening of the ground floor of Villa Maria as the headquarters of the library system of the Municipality of Livorno, more precisely as a cinema documentation centre, and after the implementation of a specific contract for the installation of the lift, in 2017 the project for a second functional lot was drawn up regarding the restoration of the second floor of the villa and the stairwell, for a total economic framework of € 285,000.00, leaving the first floor as the last lot which, when the intervention is possible, it can be affected by the works, without interfering with the ongoing activities of the building, using the access at the back and setting up a specific construction area always at the back.

Similarly to what had already been carried out on the ground floor, the same types of work were carried out on the second floor. First of all, on the basis of specific load tests, a consolidation intervention was carried out on the wooden floors, to guarantee the load capacity of 300 kg/m2, prescribed for buildings with this intended use. Again from the point of view of structural consolidations, the dimensions of the openings made during the works to set up the Progressive Museum of Contemporary Art were reduced, bringing them back to their original dimensions.

The restoration of the wall decorations, covered by paint, was carried out, as was the treatment of the wooden ceilings, partly with panels, partly with exposed beams and rafters. The floors with carpet glued on a stoneware floor, not corresponding to the original floor, have been completely replaced with wooden floors. Even the internal and external fixtures were completely replaced, not presenting a completeness and uniformity that could justify their restoration, except where it was possible.

Two new bathrooms have been created in the turret next to and behind the elevator, one of which is accessible.

From a plant engineering point of view, the electrical and special systems were completely replaced, continuing what had already been achieved on the ground floor, where the connection of the lines to the general switchboard had been arranged in a shaft next to the lift.

The total cost of the works was €248,343.82 plus VAT.
