The renowned spa resort of Chianciano Terme hosted the final stages of the Italian schoolboy/junior boxing championships last weekend, Evan Bianchi and Andrea Stefanoni of Boxe Piacenza were among the brightest participants.

Evan Bianchi, pupil of maestro Nicola Campanini, after dominating the qualifying phases, faced Gabriel Abbate, a Sicilian boxer among the tournament favourites, in the quarter-finals. The islander, despite leaving the initiative to the Piacenza standard bearer, obtained a dubious positive verdict by virtue of greater safety, winning a silver medal in the final. Evan remains, despite the defeat, one of the most talented prospects for the red and white team directed by president Antonio Orsi; as well as Andrea Stefanoni, another athlete involved in the championships who found a very difficult obstacle in the Tuscan Bramerini. Stefanoni forced Bramerini onto the defensive several times and only a review of the verdict condemned him to an unexpected defeat, suffered however by a boy who was called to Italy’s retreats several times and won the title of Italian Champion in the final.

For both Evan and Andrea this experience certainly represents a springboard towards prestigious goals, the technicians present noticed excellent fencing and an enviable technique in the boys, peculiarities that will lead both to prestigious goals.
