Trieste, fire in a basement in Borgo San Sergio: a boy and his dog rescued

TRIESTE. At approximately 12.30 today, Saturday 4 May 2024, the firefighters of the Trieste command intervened with the team from the Muggia detachment, a team, the tanker, the ladder truck, the shift manager and the guard officer, who arrived from the headquarters of the Julian command, for a fire in the basement of a building located near Piazzale Sartori in Borgo San Sergio Trieste. When the rescuers arrived on site, around twenty people, residents of the building affected by the fire, had already taken to the streets; the Fire Brigade they divided into two teams and while one began extinguishing the fire, the other checked that there were still no people inside the building.

During the patrol, the firefighters found a boy who was still in his apartment and proceeded to accompany him, together with his dog, outside the building, making the young man wear an evacuation hood, connected to the second user of the self-protector of one of the rescuers, to cross the stairwell which was completely filled with smoke. Once the flames were extinguished, the firefighters moved on to cleaning up what had burned and making the entire building safe, which also included the evacuation of smoke and an instrumental check, in all the accommodations and common areas of the building, to verify that there are no residual pockets of gases produced by combustion. Once the safety operations and all the checks have been completed, all the evacuated people will be able to return to their accommodation.

The causes of the fire are still being investigated.
