“This is not the way to resolve the moral question”

The Italian Left doesn’t agree and after the decision to remove regional councilor Anna Grazia Maraschio from her position, the Apulian secretary Mino Di Lernia explains that «if the left pays a very high price in terms of representation, it certainly gains considerably in terms of freedom of action and judgment, of thought and political proposal, without the constraints given by loyalty to a coalition and a government». A passage that sounds as strong as a warning to the coalitions at the administrative level who were awaiting a definitive positioning of the party headed by Nichi Vendola and Nicola Fratoianni.

Di Lernia explains in a note: «It is not exactly the change of direction desired by the citizens of Puglia and the political forces – and he adds – the moral question certainly cannot be resolved by eliminating those who practice legality and have made this mode of political and administrative action the daily thread, certainly not relegating it to a mere communication campaign.” SI’s regional number one then claims the work done by Maraschio: «Councilor Anna Maraschio has the clear and unequivocal merit of having closed the waste cycle, for having opposed many questionable initiatives in urban planning, for having defended our coast, without forgetting the passionate work carried out on the crucial issue, for our future and our children, of the ecological transition”. There is also a passage on the political question: «With the lack of representation of the Italian Left in the Emiliano council, a political framework is redefined which is evidently discovered on the left – and he concludes – We will always stubbornly try to carry out and exercise political action without let us be enchanted by the sirens of an increasingly dangerous and devastating populism.”

Serena Triggiani, already the first female president of the bar association of Bari, will soon be announced in Maraschio’s place. The now former environmental councilor had been appointed as an outsider and together with Rocco Palese (resigning health councillor) they were the two profiles who in recent years have acted in the regional council despite the failed election. The position expressed by Mino DI Lernia, regional secretary of the Italian Left, and the exclusion of the party from the regional government could also have a significant impact on the dynamics of Bari. In fact, the militants would have liked the symbol to end up among the lists in support of Vito Leccesethe governance had instead expressed itself through the voice of Nichi Vendola in support of Michele Laforgia. In the next few hours, support for one or the other candidate within the centre-left perimeter will be made official.
