The regional digitalisation project “Surgical time traceability system” financed with PNRR – Mission 6 Component 2 Investment 1.1 funds will be launched in May in the Bonomo hospitals in Andria and in the Dimiccoli hospitals in Barletta and which sees the ASL Bt as the leading company at regional level for project development and pilot company in the implementation phase.

Surgical time tracking is a process that allows you to record and monitor the duration of different phases of a surgery. This tool is useful for evaluating operational efficiency, identifying areas for improvement, reducing waiting lists and optimizing resource planning within the surgical department.

Monitoring the times associated with the events of the intra-operative surgical path, in fact, allows a careful evaluation of the clinical risk through greater standardization of the flows and traceability of the process. Improves the ability to plan resources, plan interventions and manage materials for setting up rooms. And not only that: the measurement allows us to analyze and improve the times of use of the operating rooms and to reduce the rate of canceled operations, to manage the waiting lists of hospitalizations requiring operations more effectively thanks to better planning of operational flows and the ability to compare similar operating practices across different facilities.

“The project led by ASL Bt – explains Maria Cammarrota, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) Manager – aims to allow the automated detection and monitoring, through the identified technological solution and Business Intelligence tools, of the times associated with events of the intra-operative surgical path, in order to have more information to improve the planning and programming of the path, as well as the management of resources”.

“The main objective of tracking surgical times, carried out in collaboration with the managements of the hospital facilities and with the surgical operating units – continues Ivan Viggiano, Administrative Director of the ASL Bt – is to improve the efficiency and quality of surgical care, minimizing delays and errors. Furthermore, this tool, which once again highlights how the ASL Bt is ready to incorporate the changes and opportunities of digital transformation, can be used to evaluate the performance of surgical staff. and identify any areas that require additional education or training.”
