We receive and publish a note signed by the Young Democrats of Bisceglie:

«Fascism is a cultural fact, the story that affected the writer Scurati takes us right back there, to the damned twenty years. This is exactly what happened: many writers were silenced, repressed, forced to leave their role. Their writings were placed under police control. Many others voluntarily silenced themselves so as not to suffer persecution.

History teaches us that there is always a before and an after, an event, the straw that breaks the camel’s back. and the rise of fascism in Italy started precisely from an event: the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti, and therefore all the massacres of ’44 were not only Nazi work but were the result of a complicit and clear intention of the fascists. fascism in Italy begins with a massacre and ends with a massacre.

It was a phenomenon of systematic political violence, murder and massacre. The partisan resistance had a fundamental role in freeing us from the squalor of fascism, and this is what we must celebrate on the occasion of the liberation. and from that struggle that our constitution was born, and from that struggle that must be restarted to defend anti-fascism and therefore the republic.

The resistance, the constitutional charter, the republic defend themselves by defending the freedoms for which the partisans gave their lives from abuses.

Today being anti-fascist means precisely this: understanding and supporting the founding value of our republic and European federalism. it is the root from which the articles of the first part of our constitution arise.

The sovereignist right in fact tries to confine anti-fascism to an archived phenomenon that cannot be repeated. But anti-fascism today means not being indifferent to the violation of the rights of women and their self-determination, of young people and their right to education, of workers who are too often killed or forced to choose between health and salary.

Today more than yesterday, resistance is necessary.

“The Constitution is a good document; but it is still up to us to ensure that certain articles do not remain a dead letter, ink on paper. In this sense the Resistance continues.” (Sandro Pertini) ».
