The Justice – Ministry of Infrastructure Joint Committee has approved the implementation of new interventions in the field of penitentiary buildings for a total value of over 36 million euros.
In particular, works worth 2,300,000 euros were approved for the energy efficiency of the Agrigento prison and 1,900,000 euros for the structural adaptation of the Sciacca prison, with the creation of 20 new detention places.
“I am proud of the Meloni Government’s powerful intervention on prison construction. We have inherited a disastrous situation, with dilapidated institutions and a Police Force reduced to the limit because it is plagued by grueling shifts and a lack of equipment and resources. Every day we take a small step in reversing the trend to recover detention places, guarantee dignified barracks for our Penitentiary Police officers, make our institutions more efficient and above all make them safe” declares Andrea Delmastro delle Vedove, Undersecretary of State for Justice.
“While the left promotes prison emptying measures to deal with prison overcrowding, we respond with the creation of new detention places. The interventions adopted today demonstrate all the attention of the Meloni Government to the security needs of Italians and the structural needs of our city”, declares Raoul Russo, Senator of Fratelli d’Italia.
