Italian Cup – Atalanta-Fiorentina 4-1, report cards: Scamacca show, Koopmeiners deadly. Decisive lookman. Bad Milenkovic

Atalanta-Fiorentina, second leg semi-final of the 2023-24 edition of the Italian Cup played at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, ended with a score of 4-1 for the Dea which thus qualifies for the final on Wednesday 15 May: it will face Juventus at Olympic stadium in Rome. Koopmeiners, Scamacca, Lookman and Pasalic scored for the Dea, while Martinez Quarta’s illusory 1-1 goal wasn’t enough for the Viola. Fiorentina played with ten men from the 53rd minute due to Milenkovic’s dismissal. Below are the votes for the protagonists of the match.

Atalanta’s report cards

Marco CARNESECCHI 6 – Engaged at the start of the match by Belotti, he risks something with the high exit on Nico Gonzalez. For the rest he has a quiet evening.

Berat DJIMSITI 5.5 – A couple of not bad advances in the middle of the area. It seems like granite, then the sudden blackout on the 1-1 goal: it fails and Martinez Quarta doesn’t forgive.

Isak HIEN 6 – Great physical duel with Belotti, most of the time he comes out the winner. He gets excited when the match atmosphere becomes battle-like. He commits the useless foul on Kouamé from the edge which gives rise to the 1-1 by Martinez Quarta.

Sead KOLASINAC 6.5 – Rocky and solid, Nico Gonzalez often gravitates towards his side and he doesn’t have an easy life at all.

from 70′ Mario PASALIC 6.5 – He closes the score with a delightful dig, which in the 98th minute certifies Atalanta’s qualification for the final in Rome.

Davide ZAPPACOSTA 6.5 – Always ready to overlap on the right to create numerical superiority, he delivers several interesting ideas and crosses.

from 74′ Aleksej MIRANCHUK 5.5 – Enters with a quarter of an hour to go without leaving his mark despite the extra man. Not very involved with his teammates.

EDERSON 6 – He dedicates himself almost exclusively to defensive work with good results. He leaves the pitch immediately after the 1-1 goal.

from 70′ Ademola LOOKMAN 7.5 – The man of the Goddess’ destiny. He scores the goal (validated after a long VAR review) which qualifies for the final with a low left foot shot into the corner pocket.

Marten DE ROON 6.5 – Usual commendable covering work in the middle of the pitch. Whenever he can, he puts pressure on the Viola ball carriers.

Matteo RUGGERI 6 – He grinds out kilometers in the left lane with his usual dedication and is a sort of added attacker. Half a vote less for the two missed goals: on both occasions he could have done much better.

Teun KOOPMEINERS 7 – Breaks the deadlock with one of his team’s players, comes close to doubling the score and plays all over the pitch, doing both phases perfectly. Player who makes the difference. Deadly.

Charles DE KETELAERE 6.5 – Slow start, then carburettor. Enterprising even if not always clear when it comes to finishing. His through ball for Scamacca which leads to the expulsion of Milenkovic and his tower for the 2-1. The 3-1 goal is devoured after a solitary run.

Gianluca SCAMACCA 8 – He had a hand in the 1-0 lead and had a masterpiece goal canceled out by VAR. He forces Milenkovic into a red card foul and then makes it 2-1 with a fantastic half overhead kick. He also provided the assist for Lookman. He is fine, both legs and head. And he shows it. Too bad about the yellow card which will make him miss the final.

Coach: Gian Piero GASPERINI (disqualified, Tullio GRITTI on the bench) 7.5 – Second Italian Cup final in the last four editions. Another masterpiece from this team that continues to amaze with its quality of play, organization and mentality. Deserved qualification. And now there is Juve.

Fiorentina report cards

Pietro TERRACCIANO 5.5 – He concedes four goals, but has no particular faults. Reactive on a poisonous shot from Koopmeiners in the first half.

DODO 5.5 – In constant pain with Ruggeri, who is getting away from him everywhere. His performance was timid.

from 83′ Michael KAYODE sv – Enter the most difficult moment of the match. Not judgeable.

Nikola MILENKOVIC 4 – He leaves his team with ten men by making an unforgivable mistake on the insertion of Scamacca: a sensational shot that he himself cannot understand.

Luca RANIERI 5 – Badly positioned for Koopmeiners’ goal, but he couldn’t have expected such a mess with Mandragora. Not free from blame in the episode that led to Milenkovic’s expulsion.

Cristiano BIRAGHI 6 – His was the perfect parable for Martinez Quarta’s goal which deceived Fiorentina. Zappacosta puts a lot of effort into him on his side.

Giacomo BONAVENTURA 5.5 – In the first match he put the Goddess’ defensive mechanisms in difficulty, this time he is the one who is harnessed. Few noteworthy flashes, but when the Viola are down to ten men he puts his heart and personality on the field.

Rolando MANDRAGORA 4.5 – Koopmeiners gets away and the Dutchman (also thanks to a lucky rebound) scores the 1-0. He gets a naive and avoidable warning, also late for Scamacca’s 2-1 goal. Definitely not an evening.

from 83′ Pietro COMUZZO 6 – He enters and with an awkward and unfortunate fall opens up a highway for De Ketelaere who, luckily for him, shoots to the stars. He redeems himself with a providential save on Scamacca in injury time.

Nico GONZALEZ 5.5 – Complicated evening for the Argentine, obviously considered the number one danger by the Goddess. He offers a lot, but finds little space and is unable to sting. He finishes the race exhausted.

Lucas BELTRAN 5.5 – He does the usual work of connecting the trocar that Italiano asks of him. He touches several balls, but he doesn’t make an impact. He comes out when the Viola need to strengthen their midfield.

from 60′ Alfred DUNCAN 6 – He comes in with the task of increasing muscle and density in midfield. He doesn’t save himself and gives everything he has.

Christian KOUAMÉ 5 – A right-footed shot from the edge of the area rebounded in the first half and little else. Definitely smoky.

from 83′ Jonathan IKONÉ sv – Italiano throws him into the fray to somehow try to exploit the counterattacks. Too isolated, he is unable to make an impact.

Andrea BELOTTI 6 – He fights like a lion, challenges Carnesecchi in the opening and generally plays a game of enormous sacrifice. He leaves for tactical reasons after Milenkovic’s expulsion.

from 55′ Lucas MARTINEZ FOURTH 7 – He comes in and confirms himself as a goalscoring defender by scoring a very heavy goal with a perfect break. Seventh goal of the season: a warrior.

All.: Vincenzo ITALIAN 5 – The elimination is a big disappointment. Bitter evening, but he too is not free from fault. The defensive line continues to be too high and the bill to pay is once again very high (see the 1-0 goal and Milenkovic’s expulsion).
