Venice in Jakarta / Biennale Cinema

The first edition of Venice in Jakarta kicks off today, Wednesday 24 April (until 28), which this year presents for the first time in Indonesia a qualified selection of Italian films from the Venice Biennale International Film Festival. There are five Italian films, both new and restored “classics”, coming from the last Biennale Cinema 2023, which will be shown from 24 to 28 April at the IIC headquarters and at the Cinema CGV in Jakarta, but also from 26 to 28 April in Bandung, at the Institut Français Indonésie.

Participating in Venice in Jakarta 2024, from the Venezia 80 Competition, are the opening film “Comandante” by Edoardo De Angelis, “Enea” by Pietro Castellitto and “Adagio” by Stefano Sollima. Out of Competition will be presented “The order of time” of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Liliana Cavani. Finally, for Venezia Classici, the public will be able to admire the restored version of “Bellissima” (1951) by Luchino Visconti, one of the masterpieces of an author who plays a fundamental role in the history of Italian and world cinema.

The project for the promotion and diffusion of Italian cinema in the world was started by the Biennale in 2005 in Brazil and subsequent exhibitions have been held since 2006 in Russia, since 2009 in China, since 2012 in Korea, where the twelfth has recently concluded edition of Venice in Seoul, since 2014 in Croatia, Lebanon, Singapore and Great Britain. After Venice in Jakarta, a new exhibition will follow in Morocco, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat, from May to December 2024.

The 81st. Venice Biennale International Film Festival will be held from 28 August to 7 September 2024, directed by Alberto Barbera.
