The Madonna della Guardia tunnel reopened to traffic of Velva, closed in recent months to allow Anas to complete a vast intervention to secure the infrastructure and modernize the systems. From today until the evening of May 5th, to facilitate travel during the spring long weekends, the tunnel will be open 24 hours a day in both directions. From May 6th onwards the tunnel will remain closed exclusively at night, from 10pm to 6am. The tunnel, which extends for 2.1km on the state road 523 Del Colle di Cento Croci, connects the provinces of La Spezia and Genoa. During periods when the tunnel is closed, traffic is moved to the SP 40, on some sections of the municipal road of Maissana del Santuario di Velva and to the SP 566. The works were financed by Anas with a total investment of 29 million and 700 thousand euros.
It was held this morning an inspection to take stock of the progress of the construction sitewhich was attended by the regional councilor for Infrastructure Giacomo Giampedrone, the mayors of the territories involved in the works and Anas technicians.
“Today we have achieved a first, important objective: to conclude the most impactful part of the works and reopen the tunnel before the spring holidays, a period which, among other things, will also see the removal of most of the motorway construction sites on the Ligurian network – he declares Councilor Giampedrone –. In mid-May we will return to reunite the management table on the intervention, organized by the Liguria Region with Anas, the Province of La Spezia, the Metropolitan City of Genoa and the Municipalities affected by the work: it will be an opportunity to take stock of the situation in view of the second phase of the works and to evaluate how to organize the works during the summer period. Also in this case, as we have done in recent months, the choices on how to accompany the last phase of the intervention will have been made by listening to the Municipalities and citizens, meeting their needs without slowing down the construction timetable. We thank the residents for the great patience shown during these months of closure, which however were fundamental in allowing the realization of a project necessary to guarantee everyone’s safety: the intervention carried out by Anas is complex, but it will give the territory a modern and efficient infrastructure”.
