April 25th Liberation Day. This year marks the 79th Anniversary. A highly significant and symbolic day for the country and this year too the Administration will celebrate the National Holidays with special attention to the students, with the aim of instilling in them greater awareness of the origin and meaning of these celebrations.

This is the program for tomorrow, Thursday 25 April 2024: 10 am meeting of the civil and military authorities, the combat and military associations, the civil protection associations and the students in Viale Crispi, Corso Cavour intersection, for the reception by the “Vittorio Emanuele III-Dante Alighieri” school ; 10.15am departure of the procession which will wind up to the War Memorial, where a commemorative wreath will be laid in honor of the fallen in all wars, followed by a moment of community remembrance.

It will be up to the actor and director Michele Sinisi to recite a monologue (co-written with Francesco Maria Asselta) entitled “The trial”: «A date to be commemorated is not a day colored red on the calendar – reads the synopsis – It is the symbol of a process, an experience lived over time. We are the vanguard of a journey supported by memory.” In closing, the speech of the Mayor Giovanna Bruno.

The ceremony was animated by the “Fantasie di note” choir of the young students of the I.C. primary school. “Verdi – Cafaro”, directed by Maestro Gaetano Pistillo.

To remember the fight against Nazi-fascism and pay homage to the fallen who sacrificed their lives to defend the ideals of freedom and democracy, even Barletta celebrates the 79th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy with the following program:

10.00 am – Barletta CastleRivellino – Liturgy of the Word by HE the Archbishop, Mons. Leonardo D’Ascenzo.

Laying of wreaths on the tombstones and military honors in the presence of the authorities and the fighting and military associations.

Reading on the “Military Resistance of September ’43”, by Vanessa Rana, student of the “Carlo Cafiero” high school in Barletta.

10.45 am – City Palace – Laying of wreaths on the tombstones commemorating Barletta’s contribution to the War of Liberation.

11.00 am – De Nittis Gardens – Laying of a wreath on the bust of Nicola Sernia and on the mural dedicated to the Vitrani Brothers.

Reading of a passage on the “Contribution of the City of Barletta to the Resistance” by Federica Dipaola and Luigi Scarnera, students of the “Carlo Cafiero” high school in Barletta.

Reading of a text on the “Meaning of April 25th” by a young ANPI member, Francesca Petruzzelli.

11.15 am – War Fallen Square – Honors to the War Memorial. Placing of a wreath on the plaque commemorating the massacre of the traffic police and street cleaners who were victims of Nazi retaliation.

Reading of a text on the victims of the massacre on “12 September ’43”, by Emanuela Debenedictis, student of the “Carlo Cafiero di Barletta” high school. “Celebrate April 25th – declared the Mayor Cosimo Cannito – is to honor those who fought for democracy and freedom. I therefore invite all citizens to participate.”
