“Banners to say enough to war” The appeal of Europe for Peace Piacenza

“People want Peace, let’s free the world from wars”. The Europe for Peace Piacenza campaign is starting in these days: “We are writing to schools, municipal administrations, the province and all public bodies, theatres, churches and religious denominations, to ask them to display a signal in the belief that it is only an “external” manifestation, but the testimony of not being “indifferent” or worse “accustomed” to passively accepting the continuation of wars, underlining the need for Governments and Institutions to commit to truly authoritative negotiations and to implement serious conflict prevention policies without increasing the profits of the arms industry”.

“The whole world is shaken by signs of war, unfortunately in addition to the signals there are also real bloody wars underway and we are not just talking about Israel and Palestine or Russia and Ukraine. But, among others, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Mozambique, Afghanistan and we could go on. These days, but it is always more correct to say, the best way to pay homage to the partisans and patriots who fell during the twenty years of fascism and during the Second World War, is to ask for respect for the constitutional provisions where in article 11 it is declared “to repudiate war as an instrument of attack on the freedom of other peoples and as a means of resolving international disputes; allows, on conditions of equality with other States, the limitations of sovereignty necessary for a system that ensures peace and justice between Nations; promotes and encourages international organizations aimed at this purpose””.

“We also ask all individual citizens – they add – to display banners with the words “Cease fire” accompanied by Peace flags in their windows and balconies, wherever possible. Banners can also be handmade with white sheets and spray cans. Demonstrations are planned in the next few days on the occasion of the Liberation or Labor Day and we ask everyone to color them with flags of Peace and with banners and signs praising the “Ceasefire”.
