Primary school children visiting the Como Finance Department

As part of the celebrations for 250th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Financial Police, on Friday morning, the students of the Como Lago State Comprehensive Institute, accompanied by their teachers, visited the headquarters of the Provincial Command of Como. In this circumstance the Fiamme Gialle they introduced the children of 3 classes of the primary schools to “Baracca” and “Dimmè”the activities that the Corps carries out to guarantee compliance with legality and those rules that regulate civil coexistence and that allow us to build a better future for society.

The students, with keen interest, also visited the Shrine of the headquarters and the Historical Museum of the Corps where they were able to observe memorabilia, uniforms, documents and materials supplied to the Guardia di Finanza in its fight against smuggling, a criminal phenomenon which, for geographical reasons , has always been of interest to this area.

The visit was also animated by an exercise by dog units engaged in searching for money hidden inside suitcases. Some of the banknotes that can no longer circulate are in fact shredded and given to the Financial Police who use them, exactly as happens with anti-drug ones, to train some dogs to find cash and combat illegal currency trafficking.

In fact, the so-called cash dogs are able to smell the ink and cellulose of banknotes which have, and retain, their own specific odor, even if they have been handled by many people. These dogs, after targeted training lasting a few months, are able to isolate odors, focusing only on what they are taught to look for, without taking others into account.
