The meeting between the mayor of Messina Federico Basile and the vice president of the anti-mafia commission at Ars took place in the Hall of Flags in Palazzo Zanca. Ismaele La Vardera and Sergio De Caprio the Last Captain.
After institutional greetings from the mayor and a speech from the Hon. La Vardera, the word to Captain Ultimo who, in a passionate speech, spoke of ideas and programs to bring to Europe, enriched by the requests forwarded by citizens and collected during the meetings of the last few days.
Particularly interesting is the passage relating to the recovery of resources to be managed directly by the municipalities, through renewable energy.
“You have an important role here in Sicily, a place that must return to being the center of the Mediterranean, once again becoming a bridge between cultures”, declares Ultimo who adds “I am proud to say it today which is the anniversary of the Barbara killing of the captain of the carabinieri Emanuele Basile”.

Last: “Raise your voice, let’s take decisive action against the mafia. Together we can and must”
Captain Ultimo speaks of a proposal that he defines as “conclusive” in the fight against the mafia.
It is a question of excluding definitively convicted mafiosi from political life, from the world of work, depriving them of the possibility of opening or managing companies, indeed, of putting them in a position to carry out socially useful activities in the service of the mayors and, therefore, of the community they represent .
“Let’s drive out these parasites who have taken our blood, don’t be shy in the fight to eliminate the mafias from our communities: this is the invitation I address to each of you,” urges De Caprio.
During the meeting, Captain Ultimo explains the idea that it is the municipalities and European citizens who are the protagonists, not the central governments “who”, he says, “have brought us to poverty and war”.
“Let’s take back what is ours and we will do it with the possibility that this candidacy offers today”
At the end of the visit, Ultimo accompanied by the mayor Basile and the Hon. La Vardera went to the Taormina and Fondo Fucile districts, two populous areas of Messina which are undergoing rehabilitation and redevelopment thanks to the incessant efforts made by the municipal administration. The inhabitants welcomed Ultimo by telling him some of their stories.
“I will never forget you,” he said, taking leave.
