Driver tested positive for alcohol, trip late – Teramo

ROSE GARDEN. There is a broken window on the bus that is supposed to take the eighth grade students of the D’Annunzio school on a school trip and the principal Lara Di Luigi demands the replacement of the vehicle for the safety of the children. It happened yesterday morning in Piazza Marco Polo to the students who delayed their departure by two and a half hours compared to expected. «The teachers warned me about the broken glass on the bus», explains Di Luigi, «and so I called the Giulianova traffic police to check the vehicle. Yes, the boys left at 11, but with a safe vehicle.”
During the checks, the police subjected the driver to an alcohol test, which tested positive, and for this reason another driver from the same private company was contacted in the meantime to accompany the students on the three-day trip between Puglia and Basilicata. «I’m not well informed about this», adds the principal, «but in any case the important thing is that the children left safely. I wanted to check as soon as I heard about the broken glass sealed with tape. I care a lot about the safety of my students.” In fact, many of them, given the situation, immediately contacted their parents who, worried, joined their children in Piazza Marco Polo. «They had been waiting for this trip for months», says one of the parents, «my son and many of his companions really thought they wouldn’t be able to go. Luckily everything turned out for the best.” In recent months, police checks on bus drivers have increased after the cases of positive drug tests two months ago involving two school bus drivers in the municipality of Castellalto. “It’s for the safety of our children,” continues one of the parents, “and thank goodness the police carried out the check, otherwise our children would have risked a lot.”
