The staffing of the police forces in Cesena is destined to increase in the coming years starting from the next few months. Mayor Enzo Lattuca said this while responding in the city council to the question presented by the PD group leader Filippo Rossini. It is the effect of a combination of provisions: the recognition of the status of capital also in Cesena and the now imminent completion of the Carabinieri barracks and the State Police station.

The new offices

The first, the Carabinieri barracks, is now ready. The move will begin in early May and between 20th and 30th May there will be the official handover by the Municipality to the Carabinieri, it will be from that date that the rental contract will start, «so that the Carabinieri does not have to sustain a double tenancy not even for a day”. Instead, we will have to wait until the second half of 2025 for the inauguration of the new police station which will be built in the complex that currently houses the CAPS, the police training center which was hit hard by the flood and has since had to move part of its activity elsewhere . For a year, the works for the new police station have been accompanied by those for the restoration of the heavily flooded structures and on this point Lattuca gave a further update after speaking with the director of CAPS: from July the structure in via IV Novembre will begin to host part of the activity courses with the prospect of reaching full capacity by December.

The housing question

In both cases it will be the first time that the State Police and Carabinieri will be able to count on offices built specifically for their needs, «An important step for the city as well as for the police forces who will be able to count on workplaces that will also be able to improve the effectiveness of their work», noted the mayor. But in perspective this step is also important because in both cases it is accompanied by a greater supply of accommodation available to the people who will come to work in Cesena. To date, a vulnerability that even policemen and Carabinieri have to deal with when they take up service in the city.

The status of capital

But it is also the status of capital that will bring positive effects in terms of staff supplied to Cesena. On the subject, Lattuca reported that he had asked for a dedicated meeting of the Order and Security Committee which was held on 12 April and in which he asked for a rebalancing of the allocations. «On that occasion – said Lattuca – the Police Commissioner reported that it is underway a redetermination of the State Police staff which will bring an increase from 76 to 90 units in the province based on the catchment area of our police station. Of these, 5 will be assigned to Cesena in the next few months. From the police commissioner, in response to my request for a commitment to increase the number of road and railway police personnel, I received an assurance that discussions are underway to obtain it. On the other hand, there are 3 new units in force at the Carabinieri barracks which will arrive in Cesena in the next few months as a result of work to rationalize staffing between the various municipalities in the provincial territory.
