Every day, numerous workers from Molise head towards the Val di Sangro industrial area in Abruzzo, making a difficult choice to stay in their homeland: traveling for several hours every day to reach their workplace. However, since April 20, many of them have encountered obstacles in their daily journey. The ATM, responsible for connections to the industrial area, has decided to guarantee only one stop in the only car park that complies with safety regulations, leaving many workers forced to use private means of transport with all the resulting negative consequences.
This situation has serious implications, especially for those working a considerable distance from the designated stop, often up to 2km away, resulting in the various stops being made in front of individual businesses.
Transport unions are calling for urgent action on public transport infrastructure. It is essential to activate a discussion table as soon as possible with the institutions of Abruzzo and Molise and with the competent bodies to guarantee the safety of drivers and passengers, as well as to ensure the right to mobility of commuting workers. This is a question of dignity and respect towards those who work and contribute to the country’s economy.
