The note sent to the commissioner of the AG 3 consortium, Dr. Giarraputo.
“The “Together for Water” Committee, made up of consortium members and citizens, writes for
request an urgent meeting with your management to discuss the emergency
water which is seriously affecting our territory.
As you know, persistent drought has caused widespread shortages of drinking water
and for irrigation, with serious consequences for families, businesses and the environment.
We are deeply concerned about the current situation and believe that it is
immediate and coordinated intervention is necessary to address the crisis.
During the meeting, we would like to discuss the following issues:
• The severity of the water emergency and its impact on our community;
• The measures that the Agrigento 3 Reclamation Consortium is already adopting to
deal with the emergency;
• Further actions that could be taken to increase the
water availability;
• Long-term strategies to ensure sustainable resource management
water in our territory.
In this regard, the Committee proposes the following solutions to be applied as soon as possible
possible time:
1. Hypothesis immediate restoration of the second lift (at the former bridge height
railways, “Vanedda” district, near the mouth of the Verdura river).
2. Provide “Poggiodiana” and Martusa lifting systems with dimensions
adequate for the flow rate to be conveyed;
3. The restoration of the Gorgo di Marco pipe, which, with the help of a
adequate pumping system, would be suitable for irrigating the San districts
Pietro, Castellana and Bassa Gulfa;
4. Monitor, by collecting certain data, the water level in the Dam
Gammauta, in order to regulate the flow from it to the Castello Dam;
5. The current status and any interventions planned by you on the adductor
main of the Castello Dam;
6. Correct planning on the rationalization of quantities of
water to be allocated to the crops present within the district;
7. To appoint a local interlocutor with whom the “Together for water” Committee
can interface.
We are convinced that an open and constructive discussion with your management is
essential to find immediate and long-term solutions to the water emergency.
We therefore ask you to grant us a meeting as soon as possible.
We remain available to agree on the date and time of the meeting.”
