The regional council approved by majority the bill presented by the council which modifies the Consolidated Law on Agriculture in the part which regulates the collection, marketing and valorisation of mushrooms.
Mushrooms, new protection rules in Umbria In particular, the measures are aimed at “improving citizens’ knowledge of the different species of mushrooms and their edibility”, but also of the “mechanisms of reproduction of the fungal flora, the functioning of natural ecosystems and correct behavioral norms”. The objective of the measure is “to reduce the impact of mushroom harvesting on the natural ecosystems themselves”.
With courses ok for collection outside the region In this sense, the regional council’s bill on mushrooms provides for “optional courses, organized by the regional forestry agency, by the mycological inspectorates of the local health authorities, by mycological associations on the basis of programs defined by the regional council”. These courses, it is written in a regional law, «participation in these courses provides for the issuing of a certificate to Umbrian citizens who will also be able to go and collect mushrooms in extra-regional territories where they otherwise would not be able to do so».
