On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the Liberation, the Gammazita cultural association promotes the day of celebration in Piazza dei Libri in the name of peace, freedom, anti-fascist Italy and in support of the Palestinian population.
«Living means participating and not being indifferent to what happens» wrote Antonio Gramsci in “The future city” on 11 February 1917, today the Gammazita Association has chosen to borrow his words to renew the invitation to citizens to do not remain indifferent to what is happening in Italy and on an international scale. The need is to counter the increasingly pressing risk that contemporary fascisms will manage to build a new global war. It is a collective responsibility to clamor for ceasefires everywhere and prepare a culture of peace.
Only after having marched, all together, in the procession with ANPI Catania, the invitation is to remain in the historic center to share a day of reflections, solidarity and celebration in the neighborhood that rises around the Ursino Castle. The common aim is to rediscover the humanity of yesterday’s partisans to repudiate any type of war as a tool for resolving conflicts dictated by economic interests and neo-fascist logic; discuss with the boys and girls about preparing for peace during a workshop and a reading; reflect with a theater show on the need to “not stay silent and raise your voice against all fascism”; oppose every form of hatred, discrimination and indifference advocated by the current government; always remain alongside the peoples who fight for freedom and all humanity.
For this April 25th we could only choose to support the Palestinian population by joining the “X Gaza Subito” Fundraising Campaign of the CISS – South-South International Cooperation Onlus of Palermo with the aim of giving concrete help to people who find themselves in inhumane conditions within the Strip (sending humanitarian aid and advocacy actions). During the festival and in the following days it is possible to purchase the “Vivo. Thursday 25 April in Piazza Federico di Svevia will still be a day of celebration, free and resistant, with free activities for adults and children.
