“The University is a safe space”

“The University is a safe space”
Descriptive text here

The accusations, made by eleven postgraduate students through anonymous questionnaires administered by the university, concern events that occurred during the 2019-2020 academic year. Among the testimonies, there is also the story of a trained doctor from the polyclinic.

The University had initiated disciplinary proceedings against the teacher, who was then suspended, and sent the documents to the prosecutor’s office which opened an investigation. At the end of the investigations, the prosecutor’s office notified the head physician of the closure of the investigations and the request for indictment or dismissal is now awaited.

Not one less, during the demonstration, harshly criticized the university’s actions. “It is absurd that the University has closed the disciplinary proceedings – say the activists – the prosecutor took care of reopening the case after years. We condemn the abuse of power in every context and demand that the University is a safe space for those who experience it. We need support for women who suffer these attitudes from teachers and superiors”.

The university, in the meantime, has reactivated the disciplinary procedure and has made a psychological support service available to female students. The case has put a spotlight on the issue of harassment and abuse of power within universities and hospitals. The activists of Non una di meno ask that active policies to combat gender violence be implemented and that real support be guaranteed to the victims.
