«Neither gifts nor money paid to Cuzzi»

«There have never been any gifts or even transfers of money from Andrea Cipolla to Giacomo Cuzzi». Simona Orlando, partner of the former Pescara councilor for Tourism and Major Events at the time of the disputed events, said this yesterday in the courtroom, answering questions from the lawyers and the prosecutor Luca Sciarretta. Yesterday, in fact, was another hearing dedicated to defense witnesses: among them too the former deputy mayor Enzo Del Vecchio, who reported on the cancellation of some concerts, and the president of Arci Pescara Valerius Tiberius. The “Major Events” trial therefore continues, with the intention of ascertaining any crimes in the awarding of the events of the Municipality of Pescara during the Alessandrini council, which were assigned without any public tender to the entertainment entrepreneurs Andrea Cipolla and Cristian Summa. There are eight defendants who, for various reasons, will have to answer for corruption, illicit financing of parties, impaired freedom of auctions and impaired freedom in the choice of contractor. In particular, yesterday’s texts, of which Orlando was the most important, outlined what the relationship was between the former councilor and the event organizers.

«What we already knew emerged, that is, that there were relationships of a personal, but superficial nature – comments the lawyer Massimo Galasso, Cuzzi’s defender -. There certainly wasn’t as deep a friendship as people want to make it out to be.” Also under scrutiny is the rental of some vehicles used by the politician during the electoral campaign and the bill for electoral dinners which, according to the accusation, were paid by entrepreneurs in exchange for the monopoly on the organization of city events. As regards the van, in fact, it would have been paid for by Summa only because, by virtue of his friendly relationship with the renter, he would have received a favorable price, while the offending dinner would not have been organized by Cuzzi, but this would have participated for a few minutes as a guest.

Great events, all the suspects are released

It all started with a very detailed complaint which, received by the prosecutor’s office in 2018, reported serious irregularities in the management of contracts for large events by “Mr. 10%”. The reference was to the percentage that the councilor of the time would have systematically demanded, according to those who presented the complaint, from some companies and associations for the assignment of the organization of shows and events since 2016. This morning we will return to courtroom, where further defense texts will be heard.
