A Rana Verona that leaves no escape for Valsa Group Modena wins the first 5th place final in its history, where it will challenge Civitanova in the match that ensures qualification for the Challenge Cup. Departure in total balance, where between overtaking and counter-overtaking the two teams fail to take off. Towards the end of the set, a great block from Spirito increased the advantage for the locals, with Davyskiba’s serving error giving the first set to Verona. Upon returning to the pitch, the guests seemed to react promptly to the deficit, then Verona responded as they knew how and put the match back on track with parity, went back down, before picking up pace at the end of the half, with Keita scoring the second. The Scala team also seem to be in control at the start of the third set, but Modena gets back on track with Pinali, hooks and overcomes, reopening the score. In the fourth set, Verona enters more loosely and puts pressure on their opponents, building a margin of advantage that is maintained until the end of the set, with the final seal placed by Keita, who sends his team to the last act of the tournament. The Malian is awarded MVP of the match thanks to the 20 points scored with 2 aces and 53% in attack. Best scorer of the match Davyskiba, with 23 balls on the ground.

In a balanced championship like ours, with many strong teams, getting to compete for a European cup is something special. We knew it would be a difficult match. We won the first two sets, then the third was played point to point and we lost it due to a reception. In the quarter the team entered the game loose and determined and we applied pressure; now it’s important to recover physically and mentally, because you have to manage the match with your head.”
Bruno Mossa de Rezende (Valsa Group Modena): “We could have done something more in the first two sets, in the third we did well to get back up and win it, then in the fourth we weren’t able to take the match to a tie break. It’s certainly sad to end the season like this, but tonight we weren’t able to find our best game.”

Almost two and a half hours of play and Cucine Lube Civitanova conquers PalabancaSport for the second time in the space of a few days. He wins the semifinal of the 5th Place Play Offs at the tie break and reaches the Final where on Saturday 27 April (6.00 pm) he will face Rana Verona at the Pala AIM Agsm. For Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza the season ends here, with a defeat in the tie break. Having lost the first set badly and the second with advantages after not having taken advantage of two set points (24-22), Piacenza then won the third set well and ended the fourth set in their favor after canceling two match balls from their opponents. In the tie break, an uphill start for Brizard and his teammates, but once Civitanova is almost reached (11-12) two errors condemn Piacenza. Among the featured guests Bottolo (MVP and top scorer with 25 points) and Lagumdzija (23). The Emilians are put back into the match by Leal (23 points), but give in at the end.

Andrea Anastasi (Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza coach): “There is a lot of anger and disappointment for how this match ended, which started badly and then recovered, but at the tie break we should have done something more. If at 12-11 for our opponents you first miss a serve and then attack out it becomes difficult to win. Just as it is difficult to give an explanation for such a poor start to the match, just as it is difficult to give an explanation as to why the three high ball attackers did not put a ball on the ground in the first set. The anger and disappointment are notable because we knew well the importance of these Play Offs, the bitterness is for how the match went, for how we played it with so many ups and downs. Leal gave us a big hand, well done Ricci, Simon was there until the end, there’s really a lot of regret.”
Romano Giannini (coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “I think the team is playing well. This Lube offers excellent volleyball even when it has to catch up. Today we were about to win the fourth set with a miraculous comeback, but even in the previous match we never gave up. Applaud must be given to these guys who are giving it their all. We wanted to get to the Final, we did it. A tough opponent awaits us on Saturday who beat us in the Groups. We will try to approach it in a different way and we will train to continue playing well. I am satisfied and proud of the boys!”.

Play Off 5th Place – The formula
The four losing teams in the Scudetto Play Off Quarter Finals and the 9th and 10th ranked teams at the end of the Regular Season play a one-way round-robin tournament which includes 5 matches for each team. The 4 best teams play in the Semifinals and Final in a single match at the home of the best ranked team at the end of the tournament. The winner is qualified for the 2024/25 Challenge Cup.
