Ancona, the big live shows are in the balance and the summer arena is struggling: “Fast, it can be done”

ANCONA There is a big question mark hovering over the Ancona summer of great events. The maxi arena at the port has not yet been made official and the promoters who hire the big names of music they take a step back. There is no longer time to contract shows of national appeal, those that can fill (for a fee, let it be clear) a location that varies from 2 thousand to 5 thousand seats in capacity. Brooch, the festival pop-rock which for 17 years has brought the cream of international bands to the city, may not go on stage for the first time since its debut. Shows which contributed, among other things, to attracting visitors to the city by boosting the economy of productive activities.

The competition

And meanwhile, all around, there is a proliferation of announcements and high-sounding programming. «It’s year zero, it’s understandable. But it would be a great shame to waste a summer” comments worried Massimiliano Zannini, owner of Caffè Giuliani and president of Confcommercio Marche delegation from Ancona. «Yes, the risk of this being a weak summer from the point of view of major events is possible» says Raffaele Giorgetti, president of Cna Ancona who, however, tries to remain optimistic. «Maybe focus on smaller proposals spread across the city, I’m thinking for example of the opportunity to be able to do something at the Passetto lakes» he says. But regarding the prospect of large-scale shows, which until now have always been planned, there is more than simple uncertainty. Especially since from Senigallia to the southern coast there is a proliferation of interesting proposals.

The exodus

«It is very likely that this will be a summer in which those looking for concerts and similar offers will move elsewhere – continues Giorgetti -, but not all is lost: now let’s think about bringing home what is feasible and in the meantime we need to build a solid identity for 2025.” So the live attraction of the Ancona summer, even for trade associations, seems to be postponed until next year. «Let’s try to remain confident – Zannini raises his tone -, now we need to try to bring people to the city». So a race against time. «We have to run – urges Giancarlo Gioacchini, historic shopkeeper in the center and local contact for Confesercenti Marche -. The Municipality will find a solution as soon as possible.”

The voice out of the chorus

The general secretary of Confartigianato Ancona Pesaro and Urbino, Marco Pierpaoli, is more positive: «Let’s let them work, the calculations will be done in the end». Pierpaoli shifts the axis to a wider range: «We hope that we can promote a good season, thinking about a vision of a vast area and promoting the Conero brand». It doesn’t matter, but tourists need to be brought into the city, if anything attracting those who go to the Conero. Where, moreover, the programming of summer events is already on display. «In fact the province has announced interesting proposals – continues Gioacchini -, but if we put in the effort we can still recover».
