PISTOIA – In the Manzini Room of the San Giorgio Library, the book “ will be presented on Saturday 18 May at 5pmNiccolò Puccini and the dream of the Risorgimento” by Laura Dominici, recently published by the Methylene publishing house. The architect Daniele Negri intervenes together with the author.

The presentation is part of “Reading, telling, meeting”, the series of meetings organized by the San Giorgio Library and the Forteguerriana Library with the aim of making Pistoia authors and stories known and promoted and promoting knowledge of culture and history. of traditions, of the most significant characters of the territory.

Fourth issue of the “Dossier Pistoia” series, the volume focuses on the figure of Niccolò Puccini, patron and philanthropist from Pistoia whose multifaceted personality left traces on the territory and in the collective memory. Pistoia remembers him in the activities of the many institutions linked to him and in popular tradition as an illustrious figure but at the same time close to the people, alive in the stories of the elderly and still close enough to the generations of young people who hardly grow up without having met him in their journey .

Like a friend who has recently left us, it seems as if we should meet him at any moment in the places where he lived. The idea that that little man with the hunchback, who many have the impression of having known, discussed politics with Massimo d’Azeglio and Vincenzo Gioberti, frequented the intellectual friends of Giovan Pietro Vieusseux in Florence, commissioned paintings from Giuseppe Bezzuoli, invited Pietro Giordani to dinner and corresponded with Leopardi. Yet, outside the province of his city, many know him for this.

Laura Dominici, graduated in Art History, teaches at the Liceo Niccolò Forteguerri in Pistoia. Since 1991 you have carried out research and promotion activities in the area with the Mirabilia arte e memoria cultural association, of which you are president. You have participated in study conferences, curated art exhibitions and collaborated with local magazines. In addition to many works of a popular nature, you have published historical-artistic texts on Tuscan art from the seventeenth to the twentieth century, many of which deal with Pistoia. Among these, “In love with this noble Italy. Niccolò Puccini and his legacy in Pistoia”, created together with Lorenzo Sergi and also dedicated to the figure of the Pistoian philanthropist, which accompanied the exhibition of the same name held in the San Giorgio Library in 2021.

Entrance to the meeting is free until all available seats are filled
