An evening to meet sponsors and fans, but also talk about how sports directors work behind the scenes of a club. Today evening, the sporting director of Cagliari Nereo Bonato and the diesse of the youth sector of Cagliari Pierluigi Carta they spoke at the talk organized by the Ottolini dealer.

A chat moderated by the director of One hundred and thirty-one Francesco Aresu with the work of the scouting areas at the centre. The work is distinct between two teams who however have the common objective of betting on profiles who can be or become key points for the club.
“There are five steps in the scouting activity – has explained Bonato – We start from July and August when we try to close the team, then we get to December which profiles are being looked at and between March and May the decisive phases: in March a field is created in which at least eight names are written per role, two months later we skim down to five and then choose which deal is best to strike“. A job in which the evaluation of the person also comes into play: “We try to understand the player’s experience as a person, not just the technique or tactics because behind every choice there are many evaluations. The market is not simple, you have to invest a lot of time to make the best choice. Making mistakes always makes mistakes, because when dealing with humans the margin for error exists“. Words shared by DS Carta who added how work in the youth sector can vary, thanks to the possibility of working in an even more marked way on the island. But also that the difficulties in understanding when a young person’s performance is due to a precocity that can be deceptive: “The scouting area is always the protagonist. A no has the same value as a yes in certain cases. Seeing a good player maybe more people can do it. Saying no may be more difficult, but it is equally important in our work“. Various protagonists took to the stage, primarily Riyad Idrissi and Ismael Konate, arrived in the youth teams of Cagliari through scout work led by Paper. The first, left back of the Primavera, with the project of Academy, the second with work in the Peninsula. Both spoke about their experiences before going on stage Zito Luvumbo: “When I arrived here I didn’t know Italian and I didn’t eat anything, but now I like your cuisine and I feel a little Sardinian too“. Bonato spoke about Gaetano’s arrival in Sardinia and said he was sure that after his naivety against Lecce the attacking midfielder will be able to redeem himself.
