TO Salerno today, April 22nd, starting at 9.30 am, it is underway the Assembly of the General Assemblies of the Confederal CGIL of the province, with all categories and secular and Catholic associations and citizenship networks. The starting point is article 1 of our Constitution, “Italy is a democratic republic founded on work”, and the themes at the center of the discussion are those that animate the ongoing mobilization: safety, healthcare, wages, contracts, taxes and pensions.
“The Assembly of general assemblies is an opportunity for a fruitful discussion on essential issues for a civilized country, of a democratic nature like ours, we read in the note from the Salerno CGIL. “The numbers of the incidence of deaths in the workplace, the constantly growing precariousness, the healthcare system which is increasingly in difficulty compared to the needs of the territories and a Government which seems to have as its only objective that of increasing even further the gap between the North and South of Italybringing the South to its knees, push us to react quickly, forcefully and decisively.”
“The next few weeks will be important: through the initiatives that the National CGIL has put in place, the points of the referendum campaign which will focus on four questions for the benefit of all citizens and which, essentially, concern illegitimate dismissals, precariousness, fixed-term contracts and procurement”.
“We are certain that the province of Salerno will be able to respond, this time too, in a compact and decisive – precise manner Antonio Apadula, general secretary of the CGIL Salerno –. He has already demonstrated this in the strikes proclaimed in recent weeks and months. Ours is a community that doesn’t back down, that doesn’t look the other way. Ours is a community capable of being indignant and of forming a common front to defend the dignity of each citizen and, more generally, the dignity of the entire South”.
The function of the assemblies is, in fact, to start the mobilization process of the CGIL to put the world of work back at the centre, overcoming those critical issues which are increasingly systematically lowering the quality of life not only of male and female workers, but of all local families. “Enough with precariousness, with low wages that do not guarantee a good quality of life. It is enough to shed the blood of workers in favor of contracts and subcontracts that downgrade the guarantees regarding health in the workplace even more significantly.”
Antonio Apadula, general secretary of the CGIL Salerno, opened the meeting. Followed by the speeches of the general secretary of the CGIL Naples and Campania, Nicola Ricci, of the delegates, of the pensioners and of the associations. Luigi Giove, the organizing secretary of the National Cgil, concludes the proceedings.
