The State Police has notified the notice of conclusion of the preliminary investigations, issued by the Locri Prosecutor’s Office, against five people resident in the provinces of Reggio Calabria and Catanzaro, held responsible for the crime of complicity in fraud in public supplies.
The investigations, conducted by the Bovalino public safety police station, began in May 2019 and concerned the performance of the municipal solid waste separate collection service by a mixed public/private company assigned following a tender contract in favor of 9 municipalities of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria: Bovalino, Siderno, Grotteria, Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, Monasterace, Condofuri, Melito di Porto Salvo, Motta San Giovanni, Bagnara Calabra.
Operation Locride Mix
The investigation, called Locride Mix, thanks to interception and observation activities and through the examination of various documents, made it possible to reveal that the managers of the contracting company, in competition with each other, would have systematically implemented artifices and deceptions in the execution of the contracts, representing to the Municipalities partial and untrue data regarding waste collection.
All this with the aim, again according to what emerged from the investigations, of hiding violation of the contractual agreements whose total contracted amount is approximately 26 million euros.
The Locri Prosecutor’s Office accuses the managers/employees of the company of various alleged fraudulent conduct, including the indiscriminate grouping of the fractions correctly differentiated by the users for subsequent transfer as “undifferentiated”, circumstances which have led to a significant increase in costs borne by the budget of the municipal bodies.
