An iris for those who buy books: the initiative returns to 15 bookstores in Florence
Descriptive text here

An iris as a gift to anyone who buys a book in independent bookstores in Florence on the occasion of World Book Day on Tuesday 23 April. It is the initiative ‘Books flourish in Florence’, which returns for the fourth edition thanks to a consolidated group of 15 bookshops: Alfani, Alzaia, Claudiana, Farollo and Falpalà, Florida, Fortuna di Pontassieve, Francese, Leggeggermente, Menabò, Nani Pittori , On the road, The Platypus, Small literary pharmacy, Todo Modo, Todo Modo dilà.

The project is inspired by the similar initiative of the Catalan booksellers who on April 23rd give away a rose for every book sold, taking up an ancient tradition of medieval origin.

World Book and Copyright Day was born under the aegis of UNESCO in 1996 to promote reading, the publication of books and the protection of copyright. April 23 was chosen because it is the date of the death of three writers considered pillars of universal culture: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega.

The initiative ‘Books flourish in Florence’ is sponsored by the Municipality of Florence.
