During the month of May in 26 Municipalities Vicenza members of Ava – Alto Vicentino Ambiente – will be installed 64 new containers for used vegetable oil, yellow in colour. They will replace those greens which will gradually be withdrawn and will also change mode for users for the disposal of domestic waste, which must take place through bottles of plastic, thus promoting better management of the disposal process also aimed at recovery and reuse in operation biofuel diesel.

This is a significant innovation for a large portion of the towns and cities of the Altovicentino area and for their residents, which ultimately concerns more than 150 thousand inhabitants. Municipalities affected are: Arsiero, Caltrano, Calvene, Cogollo del Cengio, Fara Vicentino, Laghi, Lastebasse, Lugo, Malo, Marano, Monte di Malo, Pedemonte, Piovene Rocchette, Posina, Salcedo, San Vito di Leguzzano, Schio, Thiene, Tonezza del Cimone, Torrebelvicino, Valdastico, Valli del Pasubio, Velo d’Astico, Villaverla, Zanè, Zugliano.

Here are the instructions in summary, then reported on site in appropriate information panels. Scheduled for this month replacement of containers for users, which provide a new practical modality: soon it will no longer be possible to deliver bulk oil in street containers but you will have to independently, that is to say at home, insert the used oil into one bottle plastic and close it. After which families are asked to deposit it in the special yellow road bin. Whenever this is full, it will be replaced with another, obviously empty and clean.

“This new practice, already successfully adopted by other municipal companies, aims to reduce i
theft of vegetable oilto avoid spills of non-compliant materials inside the
container ea keep surrounding areas cleaner, with clear improvements both on the environmental front and in the waste recovery capacity. As soon as – we read in the explanatory note released by Ava – citizens see the yellow container instead of the green one, they will be able to start delivering the bottled used oil. The change of containers in the area will take place gradually starting from May 6th and finishing in 30 days. The 64 yellow road containers are strategically positioned (in only 4 cases they were moved to different places than usual) and will be accompanied by widespread information”.

As for the actual positioning, a detailed map is available online at Ava’s site, which indicates the exact locations of the containers in the various municipalities. This will help citizens easily locate the nearest collection points. To facilitate the transition, it has also developed information material, including educational posters and postcards for primary schools with qrcode on a dedicated information page and a video on social media to promote the correct collection and recycling of used oil, contributing as well as the production of biodiesel. Please note that the service is dedicated to the collection of domestic vegetable oil, i.e. “homemade” oil: oil used for frying and that present in jars and cans of foods in oil.
