Regional elections in Basilicata will be held tomorrow, Sunday 21 April 2024 and Monday 22 April. The polling stations will be open on Sunday from 7am to 11pm and on Monday from 7am to 3pm. Tomorrow, Sunday 21 April and Monday 22 April the regional elections in Basilicata 2024 are taking place: the polling stations will be open from 7.00 to 23.00 on Sunday and from 7.00 to 15.00. The counting will begin immediately after the polls close and must be completed within 12 hours of its start. The final result should arrive by late evening or night on Monday. There are three candidates running for the presidency of the Region: the outgoing governor Vito Bardi for the centre-right, Piero Marrese supported by the centre-left and Eustachio Follia with Volt.

In the electoral consultation, separate voting will not be permitted, i.e. it will not be possible to vote for a Presidential candidate and for a list not associated with him. According to the regional electoral law, the elections will take place in a single round: the candidate who obtains the most votes wins, the second-placed candidate will become part of the Regional Council. There are two constituencies in which people vote: the constituency of Matera and that of Potenza.

In the district of Potenza Vito Bardi, candidate of the majority, will be on the left on the ballot, while the centre-left candidate Piero Marrese will be on the left above Volt’s candidate Eustachio Follia. On the contrary in the tab district of Matera, Bardi is positioned on the right, Marsilio and Follia on the left. The order of the lists also changes depending on how they were drawn. Eustachio Follia is an exception, supported by a single list, Volt.

How to vote in the regional elections in Basilicata, rules and preference votes

There electoral law for the regional elections in Basilicata 2024 it is similar to the model followed in other Regions. The elections take place in a single round without a run-off. Once the counting is concluded, the presidential candidate who obtained the most votes will be elected, while the second-placed candidate will become part of the Regional Council, which has twenty seats in total. Seven councilors will be elected from the Matera constituency, thirteen from the Potenza constituency.

Each voter will be able to vote for the presidential candidate (and in this case the vote will not go to the lists), or only for a list (and in this case the vote will also be counted for the presidential candidate). You can also vote for the presidential candidate or for a list, as long as the list is among those of the presidential candidate. It is not possible to carry out the separate vote intact.

Voters will also be able to express one or two preferences among the candidates on a list. To do this, simply write their name and surname on the card. If you wish to make two preferences, these must refer to people of different genders

The seats by constituency and the election of councilors

Each constituency will assign a certain number of seats to the Regional Council, defined in proportion to the size of the electorate. The lists linked to the President-elect may be assigned a majority bonus ranging from a minimum of 11 seats to a maximum of 14 seats depending on the percentage of additional votes received by the winning candidate. There is also a threshold of 8% for coalitions and 3% for non-coalited lists. The Regional Council of Basilicata is made up of 20 seats, divided as follows:

  • 7 seats for the constituency of Matera
  • 13 seats for the Potenza constituency.
