“Unacceptable. We will find a shared solution”

“Simply unacceptable.” Mayor Marco Panieri thus judges the possible closure of the Imola branch of the State Archives. The news, which arrived from Bologna and reported yesterday by CGIL and CISL, was learned “with dismay” by the mayor, who complained that on the issue there had been “no prior discussion on the part of those responsible” and “no sharing of the reasons they led to such an assessment”.

The Municipality, for its part, ensured that it would provide “maximum willingness to find a shared solution”. And this is because, continues Mayor Panieri, “the State archive includes precious and highly significant documentation for the identity and history of our city, with inestimable historical, artistic and cultural value”.

In short, the question is open. “Those materials belong to the city, to the people of Imola, to all of us, they tell and preserve our history and for us the presence in the area is an indispensable value. I am surprised with regret – continues the mayor – at the superficiality with which it was treated such an important topic, but at the same time I am certain that we will be able to activate the necessary discussions for a shared solution with the professionals who manage this service”.

For this reason, Mayor Panieri is making an appeal to the Government and more generally to the centre-right. “I hope that all the political forces of our city will also work together to find a solution in the interests of Imola, starting also from Rome”. Finally, the mayor announces that he wrote yesterday morning to the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and to the general directorate of archives of the ministry to ask for a meeting on the topic. All “also involving the regional councilor for Culture, Mauro Felicori” and the senator of the Democratic Party, the former mayor Daniele Manca, “so that he can take action in the appropriate institutional bodies”.
