PESARO – Work completed and usability restored in its 4 lanes for the De Sabbata railway overpass while on Monday traffic will be restored in via Cardinale G. Massaia and surrounding areas. The De Sabbata overpass has been the subject of extraordinary maintenance works which restore to motorists a fundamental artery for the connection between the center and the districts of Pantano and Villa San Martino in particular and, in general, for the road network that connects points of interest of Pesaro separated by the railway line.

A real feat

An intervention with a total amount of 3 million euros of resources financed through the Pnrr contribution, and aimed at replacing the safety barriers on the bridge, renovating the lateral curbs of the barriers, the expansion joints and the water collection and removal system meteor showers on the deck and ramps; of new LED lighting. Asphalting was also carried out. Other details include the viaduct consisting of 11 reinforced concrete spans, 10 spans with a clear span of 16.30m and the overpass span of the railway line with a clear span of 23.50m, for a total length of 205.00m. The deck has a total width of 12.80m and hosts 4 lanes (2 in each direction). For the maintenance operations carried out above the railway overpass it was necessary to interface with the Italian Railway Network. The works on the pedestrian railway underpass of the Cappuccini and surrounding areas are part of the “Sprint” project for the urban redevelopment of the city. The cost of the intervention is 884,000 euros (of which 806,000 euros of contribution from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the call for urban redevelopment and safety of the suburbs and 78,000 euros of funding from the municipal administration). The objective of the intervention in this case was to give new life and value to a much used infrastructure, enhancing the reconnection effects between the areas north and south of the railway line. The intervention resolves the problems relating to architectural barriers, enhancing the usability of the underpass, with slopes and structured treatments at different heights of the adjacent areas, to increase the sense of safety through greater brightness and visibility of the places. With the intervention, Marche Multiservizi renewed the existing gas network.

The other intervention

The pedestrian underpass today has a width of 3 m and a length of 102.76 m (ramps 82.26 m, tunnel 20.50 m), the slope of the ramps is 8%. The area is also enriched with a new bicycle storage facility serving the urban mobility hub; the structure will be complementary to the intermodal hub which will be created with the recovery works of the adjacent historic building purchased by the State Railways, the former locomotive shed, with the function of an intermodal hub for urban mobility which includes uses such as: storage, rental, bar /refreshment and services for bicycles and cyclists.

The capacity

The overall capacity is 32 bike spaces which will be placed on two-level racks; There are 4 stations for charging e-bikes. The opening of the deposit will be automatic with an electronic card and usable 24 hours a day.
