Lazio advances to Marassi against Genoa with a goal from Luis Alberto. Dull match for Alberto Gilardino’s men. Cagliari arrives on Sunday.

Nothing to do for Genoa against Lazio.

In advance of Friday’s Serie A, Tudor’s team deservedly beat Ferraris 1-0, with a goal in the 66th minute from the excellent Luis Alberto.

It’s a mitigating factor for the Grifone to have so many players in the pits (Malinovskyi, Vitinha, Bani, Matturro, Messias…) and others left due to turnover on the bench by Gilardino (Badelj, Sabelli).

And so Lazio, who have excellent setters, takes the lead from the start, with Genoa acting mainly on the counterattack.

One of the rare good actions of the rossoblu at the start of the match: it is Ekuban who served from behind has incredible control of an impossible ball, he goes around Gila and hits with a left foot the outside of the net: applause from the North.

Lazio holds the ball in the gamebut the first real scoring opportunity arrives for the Biancocelesti in the 44th minute, when Castellanos is very positioned in the penalty area and could finish, but instead he prefers to serve Luis Alberto who arrives late on the ball.

Change in front ed great opportunity for Genoa: he starts from midfield like an Ekuban missile after stealing the ball from an opponent, flies towards Mandas’ goal, next to him, Gudmundsson and Retegui, three against three with the Lazio players, enters the area and instead of serving the very free Gudmundsson in the center of the area, he shoots towards the opponent’s goal without hitting it. Occasion colossal failed!

In the second half it is always Tudor’s team that leads the waywith the Griffin acting on the counterattack. The best moment for the Lazio players starts from the 55th minute, when he began to squeeze Genoa more and more into their own half and then into their own penalty area. The rossoblù are struggling, and in the 66th minute Lazio deservedly took the lead: Felipe Anderson eludes the intervention of Frendrup and puts it in the center of the area, where Luis Alberto, a little too alone, adjusts the ball and throws it behind Martinez: 1-0, and it is the goal that decides the match.

Gilardino makes some changes (Badelj and Ankeye inside, Strootman and Ekuban outside) but nothing happens anymore, in fact it’s the guests who come close to doubling their score.

At the end of the race Gilardino commented on the race on Dazn’s microphones: “We must be satisfied with our first half – said the Genoa coach – because the setup was the right one, perhaps with a little more clarity we could have taken the lead. We made the best of both phases. In the second half our energy dropped, having played three days ago may have been significant and we suffered from tiredness as well as the undisputed qualities of the opponent. Sorry, there is regret and a bad taste remains in the mouth”.

Sunday 28 April – the time is not yet known – Genoa still at home, with Mr. Ranieri’s Cagliari. For this race Gilardino he should recover some starters.
