And the rumor, published yesterday by Verità, that would like none other than Mina, the tiger of Cremona, to lead the next Sanremo is also a bit of a catchphrase. A guide behind the scenes, as artistic director, with the task of choosing singers and songs, leaving the stage to a man with television experience, a Carlo Conti or a Paolo Bonolis – the names associated, in recent days, with a possible succession .
THE JOKE
The hypothesis of Mina in Sanremo, which is being worked on by Rai (no official comment on the rumours), would allow the Festival to turn the page, providing it with a guide of unquestionable authority, and sweeping away the legacy of Amadeus, which has now landed on the Nine. A sort of checkmate for the company, indirectly confirmed on Thursday on the pages of the weekly Oggi by Luca Josi. Young socialist following Craxi, TV commentator and brilliant head of Tim’s creative strategy until 2021 (it was he who made Mina the “voice” of the commercials for five years) Josi says that «after years of attempts and explorations we are with he (Massimiliano Pani, Mina’s son, ed.) managed to give life to a project that will bring Mina’s figure and fantastic imagination back to TV. We never thought about a biopic (…). The result was a project which, having found its form, immediately began to run. See you soon”.
THE HOLOGRAM
The 84-year-old artist, who retired from public life in 1978, last appeared in Sanremo in 2018, in the form of a hologram (Josi’s idea): she sang the cover of Another day of sun, from the musical La La Land, on the final evening of the Festival hosted, then, by Claudio Baglioni. But the first time that his name was associated with the event dates back to 2012, when, in Vanity Fair, when challenged about the possibility of entrusting the artistic direction to his mother, Mina’s son replied: «If they asked her, and gave her paper white, I think he would accept.” It was 2012, a few months after Gianni Morandi’s second Festival: Fabio Fazio would arrive in 2013.

THE OPENING
They were two excellent years for ratings – eighth and seventh best festival in history – which made those words fall into oblivion. In April 2019, however, Massimiliano Pani resumed the discussion on the pages of Il Messaggero. «If Rai asked her to choose the songs in the competition, and allowed her to maintain her artistic vision, I really think she would accept». This time the car seems to start moving. The day after the interview, the then CEO of Rai Fabrizio Salini said he was interested “in the singer’s openness”, suggesting his desire to delve deeper into the discussion “to discuss the future of the Festival together”. This time too, however, the idea did not materialize. The Sanremo following the interview – dated April 2019 – is that of February 2020: the first of the Amadeus era. A kingdom that has come to an end today: the throne is vacant, and a queen could sit on it.
