Cryptocurrencies: the Velletri Prosecutor’s Office and the GdF block abusive online platforms. 15 operators arrested

(PRIMAPRESS) – ROME – On behalf of the Velletri Prosecutor’s Office, the financiers of the Provincial Command of Rome and the Special Unit for the Protection of Privacy and Technological Fraud of Rome have identified and seized over 776 million cryptocurrencies with a value of approximately 63 million euros. The offenses are criminal conspiracy aimed at the abusive exercise of financial activity. The seizure is part of complex investigations carried out by the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Rome which made it possible to identify 21 subjects (15 of whom were recipients of an immediate judgment decree), having an operational base in Frascati and operating throughout the national territory. The suspects, through the use of social networks, promoted investments in cryptocurrencies on online platforms without the required legal authorizations. The proposed investments, with a view to “enlisting” new investors and attracting ever greater capital, envisaged high returns on a weekly basis.
As a result of the investigative activities: significant circumstantial elements were collected regarding the involvement of an Italian company which, by operating illegally on the market, created a digital currency, offered as a form of investment through its website. Over 776 million cryptocurrencies with a value of approximately 63 million euros were seized against him; he was subjected to arrest as a crime suspect, at the Fiumicino airport shortly before he boarded a flight to Poland, one of the suspects. The service activity demonstrates the commitment of the Corps and the Veliterna Judicial Authority to combating the phenomena of financial abuse, also perpetrated via the web, to protect the transparent investment of citizens’ savings and to combat any form of illicit activity that may be perpetrated in the markets. – (PRIMAPRESS)
