Laura Muccino

We continue with conviction – declared Roberto Bozzi President of Confindustria Romagna – to travel the road that began six years ago, towards the discovery of the great values of the cinema industry. Once again with the Rimini Film Festival the big names and professionals of the dream industry will arrive in Romagna. With them we will discover and analyze together the magic of doing the cinema business in a close link between the history of the past, present and future prospects. We thank the companies, institutions and partners who support us in this idea and who have decided to walk the path with us”.

Rimini, the city of Fellini, and Romagna – said Alessandro Pesaresi President of the Rimini territorial delegation of Confindustria Romagna – they confirm themselves as places of cinema. Places dedicated to the narration of the seventh art, ideal for hosting productions also at an international level. Our review has operated with this belief since its inception and also in the sixth edition we will offer an opportunity for in-depth analysis and analysis of the cinema industry”.

Giampaolo Letta, Medusa

We are particularly satisfied – the comment by Roy Menarini Artistic Director of La Settima Arte-Cinema and Industry and professor of “Cinema and cultural industry” University of Bologna – that La Settima Arte has now achieved such recognition and credibility as to represent a national reference, with prestigious guests arriving in Rimini. The dual nature of an event for a wide audience and an appointment for cinephiles is intertwined with the university vocation, with the inclusion of events in the educational offer of the Campus courses, thanks to a positive reception also by the students”.

The event is sponsored by MIC Ministry of Culture, Emilia-Romagna Region, Province of Rimini, SIAE, ANICA, Visit Romagna.

Seventh Art Cinema and Industry. Trip in the program

The red threads of the sixth edition of the Seventh Art are as usual many and densely intertwined.

A retrospective part of the event program revolves around the 2024 Honorary Cinema and Industry Award, Carlo Verdone. A directorial and acting reference figure of our modern comedy (among the few to have brought the Italian comedy of the Sixties into the present), Verdone embodies the concept of a cinema for the general public and at the same time capable of remaining in the collective imagination for his very acute observation of Italian society and its tragicomic contradictions. The rich tribute retraces some titles from his filmography, through a selection made specifically by Verdone for the Rimini public.

The gaze towards cinema as an industry remains the point of reference. The in-depth analyzes (masterclasses, meetings and screenings) reconfirm the interdisciplinary vocation of the Festival and its desire to explore the different fields of cinema and audiovisual (and which will be at the center of a meeting with the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission in the presence of Fabio Abagnato).

Another common thread is the one that links cinema to other creative industries. Fashion is one of these, and the special guest of the Opening Night will be Federico Marchetti, former founder of Yoox and now President of the Fashion Task Force founded by King Charles III. Marchetti, a great cinema enthusiast, artistically linked to Luca Guadagnino, was influenced by the myth of Federico Fellini. A conversation with Marchetti on fashion, entrepreneurship and cinema will precede the screening of A Bigger Splash.

Fellini himself can never be missing from the programme, this year including the annual study conference – organized by the University of Bologna and the Fellini Museum – within the programme. Two very packed days, with the presence of national and international speakers, called to discuss the legacy of one of the Maestro’s most important films, The Road (1954), whose 70th anniversary is being celebrated.

And that cinematographic art cannot be separated from its industrial status is demonstrated by an important regional preview event, the rediscovered documentary by Ermanno Olmi with (and on) Valentino Rossi, a meditation on sport, on the body and on the “warrior’s robe” remained unpublished and screened at La Settima Arte Cinema e Industria in the context of the twinning with Premio Film Impresa of Unindustria (whose winners will also be presented in Rimini where the winner of the online voting for the award will also be announced). These are the peaks of the so-called “industrial cinema”, which many masters of Italian cinema frequented and frequent.

The Seventh Art, for the rest, is perennially in love with Italian cinema. Always from the best of our filmography, in fact, comes the proposal of a cult brought back to new light, Casotto by Sergio Citti (unclassifiable and brilliant director, whose rediscovery we will celebrate by hosting the presentation of a monographic volume), offered in full version, which boasts one of the most bizarre casts ever (Jodie Foster and Gigi Proietti, among others).

Instead, Piccolo Corpo by Laura Samani belongs to today’s Italian cinema, chosen by the 2024 Valpharma Award as an author under 40, and protagonist of a meeting with the public on one of the most surprising and profound films of our recent independent panorama. And the preview of El paraiso, by Enrico Maria Artale (which will be present in the room), winner of two Orizzonti awards in Venice 2023 and not yet distributed in theaters, also flies the Italian flag.

Confirmed among the training moments is the meeting organized in collaboration with the Foundation of the Order of Journalists of Emilia Romagna, “Investigative journalism and cinema”, a tribute to and in memory of the journalist, author and screenwriter Andrea Purgatori.

A final indication comes from the commitment in the territory. If The road that enchants. Story of the discovery of the road of the gods by Diego Zicchetti – screened in the presence of Pupi Avati – is linked to the concept of “road movie” which also describes Fellini’s Road, it is in the city that the places involved multiply: in particular the screens of the Cineteca , the Fulgor, the Tiberio, the Cinemino and the Multiplex Giometti (which hosts the seminar for journalists at the opening of the exhibition) and the theaters (Teatro degli Atti and Teatro Amintore Galli), thus involving widely the realities of cinema, culture and Rimini show.
