Tough and generous, Camilla Di Iorio has already conquered Varese: “Solid base, we believe in it with Lesmo”

There was no doubt about it, but Camilla Di Iorio it is being confirmed (albeit late, for obvious reasons) a very pleasant surprise for the Città di Varese Femminile. After the meniscus problems that continued from last season at Lesmo, it has been operational again since January in a group e Mister Bottarellias soon as possible, did not hesitate in starting her.

And thestriker born in ’01 responded first and foremost with important performances, embellished with four goals, the last of which last Sunday was fundamental in securing the success against Albosaggia. Generous, leathery And opportunistwhen he can, always attacks the ball and never hesitates to kick even if one of his best qualities is the ability to provide assists.

A complete attackerin short, what happened right away well immersed in the red and white mentality dividing himself naturally between work and football. After all, coming from one sports family (Inter fan since the cradle and in love with Lautaro Martinez) it couldn’t be otherwise. “Despite having started playing late – says Di Iorio -, at 13, I always played with my brother Andrea who, among other things, had just won the First Category championship with Morazzone. Dad Giuseppe was himself a footballer, while mum Simona has always been our biggest fan. Who is stronger between me and my brother? Let’s say that we are both strong…”.

How did you arrive in Varese?
“Working in Switzerland for a company that sells wholesale clothing, the kilometers to travel to Lesmo from Uggiate Trevano were starting to take a toll. At the same time I didn’t want to give up football because ever since I started playing at Como 2000 I have found everything I need in football. In Lesmo, apart from the poor feeling with the coach last year, everything was going well; unfortunately the meniscus injury last season put me out of action and, balancing everything, I chose to come here to Varese together with my other teammates”.

What was the impact? In the sense: how did you experience the first rather complicated months from the outside?
“The impact was certainly positive because, although you are accompanied by the uncertainty of not knowing what you can expect, I was welcomed with open arms: a beautiful relationship was immediately born with everyone and this helped me to move on more quickly. the months out. Of course, knowing that I couldn’t contribute to the team weighed on me: even then I saw the potential and we couldn’t understand why the results weren’t arriving. There have been many grafts and perhaps they just needed time to blend together; that’s why we didn’t get going right away.”

And now that you’re back as a protagonist?
“Everything is getting better and better. However, credit must be given to the entire team because even before my return something had changed because the group became much more united on and off the pitch. If on the one hand this leads to further regret for the start of the season, on the other it acts as a stimulus to end the year on a high note and the last four consecutive victories demonstrate this. I believe a good foundation has been laid to build something important.”

How exciting was it to return to scoring?
“Every goal is a great feeling, but I prefer to score goals. Difficult to explain, but the feeling that an assist leaves you with is completely different because you have that satisfaction of having contributed to a double joy, both personal and for your partner. If I had to choose between scoring a bad goal or contributing to a beautiful team goal, I would have no doubts and choose the latter.”

I imagine there is a dedication for the goals.
“I dedicate the first two to myself, the others to the team. I’m not 100% yet but I will be soon and next year we will get a lot of satisfaction.”

Claudio Vincenzi described you as generous, tough and opportunistic. Do you see yourself in this description?
“First of all, I thank him because he, like everyone else, immediately had kind words for me. Among other things, having much more experience than me, I can only agree: I recognize myself in all these characteristics, especially in the second because it is a quality that I have always wanted to put at the service of the team and I know how important it is also to drag the others”.

Two games to go, six points within reach?
“Obviously yes.”

However, I imagine we are looking towards May 5th with the first leg of the Cup semi-final against Lesmo.
“And it’s natural that it should be like this, even more so for me: the last time I was able to play just five minutes, and I really want to test myself against my former team and a real battleship of the category. Impossible challenge? No, because we have grown a lot and we have created some difficulties for her. However, it will be essential to enter the field with the right head, believing in ourselves and in our possibilities.”

There was talk of the possibility of “becoming next year’s Lesmo”, i.e. the team to beat; Do you believe?
“Why not? The foundations are there and we know it. This season has brought us awareness from all points of view, negative and positive: with the right adjustments this team can do really well. The mister? You can’t even make comparisons with last year: Bottarelli is a serious and prepared coach who, above all, knows how to relate to a women’s locker room. I sincerely hope that he can stay because of all of them he is undoubtedly the one who believes in us the most.”
