Piedmont: Trenitalia maintenance workers go on strike

An 8-hour strike has been called in Piedmont by the staff who deal with the maintenance services of the Trenitalia company, a company that manages passenger transport on behalf of the Italian State Railways Group. Arms crossed from 9am to 5pm on Monday 22 April. The workers are mobilizing in protest “since six years after the national contractual agreement, many points at a local level have been disregarded”.

“The growth process of new generation trains requires adequate infrastructure. Maintenance activities require suitable workstations and equipment such as gangways that allow work on the upper part of the trains which to date are completely insufficient and inadequate”, they explain by the Filt-Cgil union of Alessandria.

The workers’ representatives inform that on Monday, from 9.30 to 12.30, the workers will be in front of the prefecture of Alessandria to express their dissent and ask the local institutions to take an active part towards Trenitalia, so that the latter maintains the commitments made, investing in the territory.
